Poll rides to Maquoketa Andover Meat IMCA Late Model checkers
Larsen, Franzen, Bonney, Wauters, Marshall, Claeys also win

By ROB HINCKLEY
MAQUOKETA, IA (June 2) – He glanced at the green light each time he drove down the back stretch and front stretch.
Jonny Poll did not want that green to change to yellow.
He got his wish and the Bellevue, Iowa driver rolled to the Andover Meat IMCA Late Model 25-lap feature win Saturday evening on O’Reilly Auto Parts night at Maquoketa Speedway.
“Just hoping there wasn’t a caution for me,” Poll said. “I did one final adjustment before I climbed in and it paid off.”
Poll started on the pole, dodged a few raindrops late and held off veteran Joe Ross, who stayed there the entire race.
Eyes were on Andy Nezworski, who had the previous two wins. He started deep in the field and hit the top five by lap three. He jumped two spots on laps 12 and 13, but could climb no further.
The top seven ran nose to tail the first 15 laps before Poll and Ross opened the advantage with the leader dominant off the turns.
“I could full throttle around the corner which is very rare when it’s this slick out. The track changes so much every time out. It’s just a guessing game of hoping you hit the right setup.”
Don Pataska and Joe Zrostlik rounded out the top five.
Jeff Larsen started again on the front row and again led all 20 laps to win his second straight QCJeeps.com IMCA Modified finale.
Tyler Madigan strategically diced through the field to take second ahead of Ben Carpenter, Jayden Fryer and Matt Short.
Ten different drivers ran in the top five, including point leader Bryce Garnhart. His race came to an end when he was sandwiched between two cars late in the race and pulled in the infield with damage. He was scored 14th.
Jarrett Franzen made a late race pass of Timmy Current and became the first B&D Pit Stop IMCA SportMod repeat winner of 2018.
Current led for the second consecutive week and settled for runner up. Last week winner Gage Neal, Jared Waterman and Mitch Bielenburg followed.
Joe Bonney survived side by side battles throughout the 15-lap Ueland Auto IMCA Stock Car 15-lap main. Current, doing double duty, and Brad Gill challenged. Current’s mount broke and Gill fell short. Tim Schneider, Jimmy Comins and Donnie Louck came next.
Daniel Wauters stormed to the front of the IMCA Hobby Stock 12-lapper and took his second straight win, followed by Kile Vohringer, Randy Byerly, Shane Oberbreckling and Dakota Simonsen.
Brett Marshall made it three straight Obie’s Restaurant and Bar/B&C Liquors 4 Cylinder wins. Tyler Shady, Dillon Embree, John Campbell and Nick Proehl followed.
Mark Claeys won the Maquoketa debut of the Nostalgia Stock Car Racing Club, wheeling his 1957 Chevrolet to the checkers. Eric Sanders and Jamie Huff were next.
A total of 78 race teams filled the pits and the final checkered flag fell about 9:30 p.m.
Action continues this Saturday June 9 with Mid-Season Championships in all regular classes - Andover Meat IMCA Late Models, QCJeeps.com IMCA Modifieds, B&D Pit Stop IMCA SportMods, Ueland Auto IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Hobby Stocks and Obie’s Bar and Restaurant/B&D Liquors 4 Cylinders.
